Magick Spells

Technically speaking, many of the entries here are not spells. However, there is a tendency to call any magickal process a spell, so there is a precedent.

Some spells require very little preparation on the part of the caster. Other require such extensive preparations that they are classed as rituals rather than mere spells.

Simple spells may require little more than concentration and perhaps hand gestures to invoke them. Others may require spoken chants. Stills others may require candles, daggers, tokens, herbs, or other physical items which may or may not be used up in the working of the spell. Examples are the ritual athemes, goblets, and vampire blood that a practitioner would use to Turn someone into a vampire without the bites. The most complex and powerful spells usually require a combination of these elements.

Spells

Creation spell
A difficult spell that literally creates something out of nothing based solely on the practitioner’s desires. It is also used, backwards, in the Dis-Creation ritual.
Duplication spell
A difficult spell that creates an exact copy of an existing item. There was a version of it in the Grimoire of Eleanor Uasal.

“That which is one, now becomes two.
That which is two forever will be.
That which will be shall appear to you.” 2000-06-23.

Influence spell
One of the most common types of spells. The spell cast can only influence the outcome of some event, heal or curse, or make a situation better or worse. Example is a common love spell: The spell is cast upon a person but then the spellcaster must still go woo the person on his or her own. The spell only influences the event; the outcome is still uncertain (2002-04-01).
Morphological transformation
A spell of mid-range difficulty. The practitioner can transform him- or herself, or another person, into another type of creature, usually some form of animal. This has nothing to do with the shape-changing magick of morphs. Transformation into a creature with significantly more mass will deplete the spellcaster’s energy, possibly to a vulnerable level (2001-06-17, 2002-04-04).
Portal spell
A common spell that can be relatively easy or very, very difficult. A portal is a connection between otherwise discontinuous points in space or time. Traversal is always instantaneous both for the traveller and an observer regardless of the distance tranversed. Creating a portal from scratch, a conjured portal, will always require more power than invoking an already-created portal, a standing portal. Conjured portals also disappear after they have been traversed. Invoking a standing portal requires less power than creating a temporary one. Thus, there are good reasons to create standing portals. However, some types of portal can only be conjured.

Space-time and Inter-dimensional portals can be established as standing portals. All four types of portal can also be conjured for at-the-moment use. Portals can also be forced to remain open (for a quick get-away), instead of allowing them to close for standing portals or collapse for conjured ones.

See Portals for more detailed information.

Resurrection spell
An extremely dangerous and difficult spell, requiring two strong practitioners, one male, one female, to cast. It reconnects the body and soul of a deceased person, bringing the dead back to life. It is considered black magick in some circles and was once forbidden by the Council of Three. A sacrifice or heroic deed is required to balance the resurrection; normally, this is done before the spell is cast, but it can be done afterwards if the delay is not prolonged (you have until moon set). If the required balance is not achieved in time, the resurrected person will die again. The chant is repeated as often as necessary until it either works, or it is obvious that it is not going to work. Not giving up too soon is why they call it “skill”.

“You are the mother of light.
I am the father of darkness.
 Let us come together.
 Let us be one.
 Life...return to thee.
 Life...bestow to thee.
 Life...from me to thee.
 Life...from us to thee.
 Life...from all to thee.” (2000-12-11).

Separation spell
A variable-level spell, it can be easy or difficult. It is similar in some ways to an influence spell, but it specifies explicitly the desired result, in this case, the separation of two individuals. The version given here is a powerful one of the sort a talented Tepes-vampire might cast.

“That which fate has forged together--let me tear apart Forever.
Hate is burning as a flame--all his ills she is to Blame.
Torn Apart. Torn Apart. Torn Apart. Forever!” (2002-02-10).

Snow spell
A moderately difficult spell. It manipulates weather patterns to cause snow at the caster’s location. It requires a single white rose.

“Pure light, ancient white.
Hear the silence, feel the night.
 The fire is so delightful,
And there really is no place to go.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.” (2000-02-04).

Vampire spell
A somewhat difficult spell. A practitioner Turns a person into a [usually] Lilith-vampire without the benefit of actual vampire bites. The victim still must die to rise as a vampire, however. See How to Become a Vampire, Magick.

Rituals

Dis-Creation ritual
With sufficient power behind it, this ritual can apparently destroy a universe. Only demons and their underlings have sufficient ability to handle it. Among other things, it requires the sacrifice of certain specific victims to the demon and the chanting of a creation spell backwards (2000-10-13).
Shapeshifter ritual
Some families of practitioners had shapeshifter threads, where individuals could use a [relatively simple] ritual to transform into the totem animal. This is different from a normal morph transformation which only requires an act of will (or lack of control in some cases). Since a practitioner of some ability is assumed, only a born-witch practitioner is probably able to perform such a ritual (2000-01-23).
Tepes ritual
A human can be Turned into a Tepes-vampire through an extremely dangerous ritual which invokes the unknown name of God. It was only attempted once, and the invokers burst spontaneously into flame. This suggests that the ritual should not be attempted casually. See How to Become a Vampire, Ritual.

Special Magick

Artefacts
Physical objects can have magickal properties that make them valuable tools for accomplishing certain effects. Some of them may be required items for certain spells. Others are inherently dangerous.

Generally speaking, artefacts are created for a purpose (Dark Sun Necklace, Excalibur, Mjollnir, detecting stone, voodoo soul jar), acquire significance due to circumstance (lotus flowers from the Buddha, the Holy Grail), or are inherently magickal (unicorn horn, golden fleece, Dracula’s ashes). By far the most common type of artefacts are the ones created for a purpose. See Artefacts.

Grimoires
Collections of spells, especially in book form. Often this takes the form of a log book of the practitioner’s activities over time. In other cases, there is the clear intent to preserve the spells without providing commentary beyond what is necessary to use them properly.
Vampire covenant
If a vampire bites someone without killing the victim, and then injects some of its blood into the wound, the vampiric blood will release the inhibitions of the victim. (In the case of a Nosferatu, the victim falls into a zombie-like state.) While this is not spellcasting magick, it is magick of the blood. See Vampire Covenant.
