History

Joan first discovered witchcraft on the campus of the University of Illinois. She and her roommate joined a campus club that promoted the positive issues of witchcraft. The club did not fare well on the campus and was disbanded. Joan, however, followed the path.

After graduating Joan decided to pursue a career in law enforcement. Her grandfather had been a policeman in Illinois. After completing her training, she became a police officer in Chicago, Illinois.

While investigating a murder, Joan bumped into an old witch. The old witch told Joan that the murder was committed by a were-wolf. Joan ignored the old lady’s insistence that a were-wolf had done the deed, but later on when forensics refused to release details on the murder she investigated further. It was found that blood under the victim’s fingernails matched that from a Canis lupus, a wolf.

From that time on she could sense things of a dark, supernatural nature. A couple of months later she married and she and her husband were transferred to North Carolina. Unfortunately the couple divorced only two years after relocating. Joan was jobless and desperate. She applied for and attained a job as a deputy in Haven, NC. Joan still practiced the Craft in secret (as part of the Haven Coven that includes Agnes Crabtree and Ruth Chattan), but she could feel no sense of the Netherworld...until Chelsea came back.

Joan was the sharp shooter who darted Chelsea after Chelsea’s first full transformation. Joan argued against the destruction of the black leopard, but to no avail. However, the doctor at the county kennel refused to do the act, and Chelsea reverted to human form and went home with Jubal.

She was part of the group who performed the ritual to try and control Chelsea’s transformations. She was seen in her official capacity when Jubal was shot. She found Anna Crenshaw’s body, and also tipped off Paul McRae that a vampire had committed the murder.

Powers

In spite of not being a born-witch, Joan has the ability to sense the supernatural. Otherwise, she is a common witch with limited power. That does not prevent her from being an important part of the Haven Coven.

Personality

Tough and no-nonsense. She has a soft-spot for cats (even large black leopards).
